Product Design - Zaha Hadid Exhibition

I'm so honored to get my prototype for an inventive yet sustainable bag entered in to the Zaha Hadid Exhibition at the Philadelphia Art Museum! My beautiful friend (Mercy) is modeling my latest creation which I've branded as the "Hold On" unisex carrier.

Made from (3) bike tires, and fit for anyone on the go, this innovative design is
constructed completely with discarded rubber material and stitched together with steel
wire and fasteners. The main body is woven with the elasticity of inner-tubes so that it
may expand when full. “Hold ON” to this bag and all of the necessary items for your
overnight adventure will tag along with ease.

The vertebrae of bike components allow you to maintain a firm grip, and
experience interchangeable functions. This bag will rest over your shoulder, across your
torso, and sit high on your back with ease and comfort. Held shut with air tight pressure valves sunk into the spine, this model represents the strength and versatility of the human body.

The inspiration for this bag is Zaha Hadid’s organic design principals (used in d’Leedon),
her conceptual modernism (such as the Chanel Mobile Art Pavilion), and her ideal
construction to the human form (used in her Lacoste shoe designs). Hadid’s influence
also directly adorns the bag with print relief from the tire treads.

As you “hold on” to this bag, notice the different textures that were developed by using
the same material. Notice the flow of the spine throughout the entire form and the joy of
these contrasting colors. No glue, thread or piping was used in this process, which
allowed -me- the designer to really understand the character and possibilities of this
rubberized material.

Prolong the bike tire’s expiration and transport to a landfill. I believe
sustainability is at its best when it becomes a practical and visually educational element
to fashion. Ultimately, if you “hold on” to this bag you are a super hero and:
YOU ARE SAVING THE WORLD
