Humanitarian Mapping with OpenStreetMap
I dedicate one of my classes each semester to mapping for humanitarian efforts as a way to make better
use of our individual cognitive surplus.
The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team provides a global mapping platform where you can voluntarily
contribute to maps in remote areas devastated by natural disasters, impoverished regions where outreach
efforts are needed, or to identify sites with hazardous critical infrastructure.
It’s great to know that even if you don’t have the financial means to donate to a cause, you can leverage
your time and ability to navigate the web for doing some incredibly valuable work helping others. By
following these simple instructions you’ll generate maps that aid first responders and disaster planners
can use to access remote areas and save lives!
Contribute at your leisure and gain some good karma points by putting your cognitive surplus to work!
